High mobility group AT-hook 1 (HMGA1) is a gene that encodes a non-histone protein that functions in various cellular processes, including regulation of gene transcription, integration of retroviruses into chromosomes, and metastatic progression of cancer cells. Fusions, missense mutations, and silent mutations are observed in cancers such as endometrial cancer, kidney cancer, and intestinal cancer.
