Glutathione S-transferase mu 5 (GSTM5) is a gene that encodes a protein that functions in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, such as carcinogens. Missense mutations, silent mutations, and nonsense mutations are observed in cancers such as skin cancer, central nervous system cancers, and lung cancer.
